K-6 Curriculum

At Pacific Academy, we believe that learning happens in more ways than the traditional teacher-centered approach. Our curriculum integrates active, hands-on and interdisciplinary learning using:

  • Project-Based Learning

  • Experiential Education

  • Service Learning

  • Leadership Training

We hope students become more engaged in their learning as they develop important skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Project Based Learning

Project based learning is a comprehensive and dynamic approach to instruction in which students explore real-world challenges or tackle essential questions. Each class has at least one project per semester in which students collaborate, explore, and think critically to create a product for a real audience. A primary goal of the program is to inspire students to obtain deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying.

Experiential Education

Field trips and regular outings are vital to the energy and rhythm of Pacific Academy.  We believe that important, meaningful learning takes place outside of the classroom. We also provide opportunities for other experiences outside the classroom, such as internships, clubs and extracurricular activities. Students must follow the instructions of faculty and staff on all school field trips and outings.

Service Learning

To help fulfill the school's mission of creating compassionate and responsible global citizens, Pacific Academy fosters a service learning curriculum. Ranging from service completed within our school community to service completed in partnership with local community partners, students are pushed to experience how service can impact every facet of life and to better understand the social issues behind the necessity for service.

Leadership Training

Leadership training is an important part of our curriculum because we believe these skills and habits for success should be taught at an early age. The five main topics are: Participation, Responsibility, Ingenuity, Determination, and Empathy (PA PRIDE.)  Throughout the year, students learn and practice these values through discussions, projects, group activities, presentations, and award recognitions.
